Our continued success means that we are looking for a range of marine ecologists and biologists to fill roles from graduate to principal grades to join our expanding team in one of our UK southern offices: Exeter, Newport, Portsmouth or Haywards Heath.

We are looking for candidates with a marine/coastal ecology-based degree (or equivalent) with existing experience in the industry working as an ecologist who is motivated and keen to progress their career.

JBA have secured several long-term collaborative frameworks covering coastal management and fluvial schemes. JBA provide long-term sustainable solutions and we are at the forefront of designing exciting innovative nature and natural based solutions to tackle climate change impacts. We are fast building a reputation for providing solutions to coastal management schemes through innovative design, partnership working and client collaboration.

We are looking for forward thinking individuals who want to join us on our journey. You will support our marine and coastal infrastructure projects, by delivering a range of marine ecology-based tasks including:

  • Designing, consenting and management of marine and ecology surveys.
  • Completing Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRA), Marine Conservation Zone and Water Framework Directive Assessments.
  • Contributing to marine ecology technical reports/chapters for Ecological Impact Assessment.
  • Carrying out stakeholder consultation with a particular focus on the marine environment.
  • Provide consenting and planning advice to clients with specific focus on marine ecological receptors.

Many of the projects will relate to our framework success with the Environment Agency in the southeast, but we also have a diverse portfolio of development and planning projects. Due to expansion in the South of England we can also offer additional opportunities for the right candidates to progress as project managers and team leaders. Your Skills & Experience

Candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills and be effective verbal and written communicators.

We would be keen to talk to people who share our vision in delivering compliant schemes that seek to maximise biodiversity gain and reduce carbon effectively.

We are looking for highly motivated, organised and conscientious individuals, who demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for marine ecology.  You must be used to working in a team and collaborating with clients.

You will need to have a good all-round knowledge of marine/coastal ecology with a keen interest in developing your current skills.

We would be keen to talk to people who share our vision in delivering compliant schemes that seek to maximise biodiversity gain and reduce carbon effectively.

Candidates should demonstrate most of the following skills and experience:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant marine ecology/biology-based subject.
  • Expertise in benthic ecology, fish & shellfish ecology or marine mammal ecology.
  • Undertaking Ecological Impact Assessment for coastal, nearshore or offshore infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of relevant marine environmental legislation.
  • Habitat restoration and creation.
  • Experience of working with a variety of stakeholders with a particular focus of the marine environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a range of audiences.
  • Experience in the delivery of marine Environmental Impact Assessments and the consenting process including marine permits.
  • Site supervision/support.
  • Member of CIEEM or demonstrate evidence of working towards CIEEM membership
  • A full UK driving licence.

We would also be interested to see skills and experience in some of the following:

  • Environmental Permit and Consent Applications.
  • Protected Species Licencing.
  • Knowledge of Nature Based Solutions.
  • Experience of writing thorough and complex reports and assessments, such as HRA stages 1-4 and Environmental Statement chapters.
  • Commercial and Financial Management.

This role will be based in in one of our UK southern offices: Coleshill, ExeterHaywards HeathNewport or Portsmouth.
